How does the Backyard Toadtrap work?

The Backyard Toadtrap has a simple swinging trap door entrance and contains an attractant to lure toads inside.  The trap can be easily opened to remove toads once they are captured. No assembly is required, just remove trap from packaging and the attractant from the plastic bag and place in yard.

Where can I buy a Backyard Toadtrap?

Toadtraps are available via mail order or order through this website using the Paypal secure ordering system .  Please contact us for more details or if you wish to place an order (see contact page).  We are presently getting the toadtraps ranged in hardware stores, nursery and landscape supply outlets. The traps are shipped via Australia post  and or courier for larger orders.

Is the Toadtrap reusable?

Yes, the trap is made of durable, waterproof material and can be used as many times as you like. Just replace the attractant when necessary.  Alternatively use as a once off measure and dispose of the trap containing the toads in one go.

How can I get refills of attractant for my trap?

Two parcels of attractant are supplied with the trap in the initial order.  You can order refills online or contact us by phone, fax or email (details on our home page).

How often will I need to replace the attractant?

Each attractant should last up to two weeks.

Where can I dispose of toads once I have caught them?

We suggest placing cane toads from the trap into plastic bags and humanely freezing for disposal in rubbish bin.  Contact your local council for further advice.

What are the Toadtraps made of?

The traps are made from polypropylene fluteboard, a lightweight, durable, waterproof and recyclable material. The trap weighs approx 550grams. The toad trap is only available in green.

Is the attractant harmful to my children or pets?

The attractant is made of non-toxic ingredients and is not harmful to pets or humans.

Are toads a danger to my pets?

The secretions produced by toads can be toxic to animals if ingested.  Removing toads for your yard will reduce the likelihood that pets will be affected by cane toad poison.

Where can I find more information on toads?

Our website has links to a number of informative websites on cane toads.

How many Cane toads will the trap hold?

We have caught up to ten cane toads in a trap, but we recommend you check your trap every few days, emptying trap to minimise the chance of escape if trap becomes over crowded.

Where should I put the Backyard Toadtrap in my yard?

We recommend choosing a location under scrubs in garden beds, under verandahs but you should have success with generally placing anywhere in your yard.

Will the trap catch native frogs, lizards and rats and other animals?

Throughout our trials the chances of a by-catch of other native fauna was very minimal. The Trap lid can be opened to take a "sneak peek" inside to ensure that there is no by-catch in the trap. Native animals can be removed quickly with a pair of gloves. Any small native lizards can escape through the door slats with ease. The trap entrance has purposely been made relatively small to minimise the risk of small pets gaining entry.

WARNING: We have not experienced an incident of finding a snake in a trap but people should always look through slat openings in doors before opening Backyard Toadtrap. Take care if a snake is found in a trap and call your local authority or a professional snake handler immediately. Do not try to remove snake under any circumstances.
